After completing his MD from Mumbai, Dr. Abir Lal Nath, discovered a profound passion for neurological disorders, which led him to pursue a DNB in Neurology from the prestigious Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata. During his residency, he developed a strong inclination toward stroke medicine and neurointervention, recognizing the immense potential of advanced neurovascular therapies in transforming patient outcomes.
To further hone his skills in this highly specialized field, he undertook a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Stroke and Neurointervention. During this intensive training period, he performed and assisted in thousands of advanced neurovascular procedures, including cerebral and spinal angiographies. He gained extensive hands-on experience in life-saving interventions such as:
- Carotid and vertebral artery stenting
- Aneurysm coiling
- Stent-assisted coiling
- Intracranial stenting
These procedures were performed both independently and under expert guidance. Further, he went to Paris, France, and completed the prestigious LIINC Course of Neuro-intervention, enhancing his expertise in the latest international techniques and protocols.
Driven by a deep commitment to bringing cutting-edge care to underserved regions, Dr. Abir Lal Nath returned to Tripura and became a pioneer in the field by initiating Brain Angiography services in the state. His work has had a transformative impact, saving numerous patients suffering from acute strokes and other complex neurovascular conditions. He has successfully performed multiple aneurysm coilings as well as stenting procedures involving the carotid, vertebral, and intracranial arteries—interventions that were previously unavailable in the region.
Dr. Abir Lal Nath is also the visionary founder of the Department of Neurology at AGMC and GB Hospital. Under his leadership, the department has evolved into a center of excellence, offering comprehensive neurological care with a focus on accessibility, innovation, and compassionate service.
